Whatever You Do

“All a person’s ways seem pure to them, but motives are weighed by the Lord.
Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.”
Proverbs 16:2-3

Maybe it's out of duty. Maybe it's out of pride. Maybe it's out of selfishness. Maybe it's out of love.  Whatever we do and with whatever motive we may think we are doing it out of, God knows the truth.  Our motives are weighed by Him.

In our busy and hectic lives, it's easy for us to get into the mindset that what we are doing is right. We can justify our behavior, our attitudes, even our 'busyness', but God knows the real reasons of why we are doing what we are doing.

The key to the passage above is committing our lives to the Lord.  Instead of us doing OUR WILL, we allow God to establish our plans and we do HIS WILL.

It's not easy!  In fact, it's really hard to give up what "I" want to do what HE wants.  It's a constant battle of self vs. God.  I want Him to win the battle, don't you?

Today is a new day.  Today commit to the Lord in whatever you do and He will establish your plans.  And then wake up tomorrow and repeat it again....and again....and again.

The Chronicles of Biscuit - Biscuit's Big Plan

The Chronicles of Biscuit:  Stories about our youngest son, Tyler, whose nickname is Biscuit.

For the past few months, Biscuit has been on a money-making and saving mission.  His goal is to get a new set of golf clubs.  He asks if there are any special jobs he can do around the house, in the yard, and in the fields with our goats.  His grandmother "hired" him to pick up sticks and paid him for that, too.  He's slowly making progress....too slow in his opinion!

Biscuit wants new golf clubs, but his big plan involves us - his parents.  Biscuit told his dad the other day that when we die he is going to tear down our house and build a golf course.  It probably amounts to only two acres, so it wouldn't be that big, but in Biscuit's eyes it would be just perfect.

I suppose I should worry that his big plan only comes into effect if my husband and I are out of the picture.  I suppose it should make me sad that Biscuit doesn't seem to mourn the thought of us being gone.  I don't think he's wanting to build the golf course right now, but I'm not going to ask him, either!

Biscuit has a plan.  He has a dream.  He's not obsessed with it, but has just logically (for an 8 year old) thought of what he would like to do.

Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” As it is, you boast and brag. All such boasting is evil. Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn’t do it, sins.
James 4:13-17

What about you?  Do you have a plan?  Do you have a dream?  What would you like to do in the future?  While each and every day is a gift from God, and we're not guaranteed another day to live this life, we should have some kind of plan - a course of action - as we live out our lives for Him.  But, in everything, we should realize that our plans will only succeed if they are God's will for our lives.  Our plans will successed when we are committed to Him, put our faith and trust in Him, and do it for His glory and not our own.

All a man’s ways seem innocent to him, but motives are weighed by the LORD. Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.
Proverbs 16:2-3
