Quotes to Live By

Yesterday morning in Bible class, one of my brothers-in-law was teaching.  He said that at as a kid, his parents would tell him this quote,

"If you are going to do something, make sure God will be pleased with you doing it."

I guess I've always lived by this quote, but never really thought about it being a quote...just a way of life....striving to live according to God's Word.  It's kind of like the "What Would Jesus Do?" motto.  It made me think, though, that to many this quote isn't how they live their life.  In fact, to many, maybe what God thinks or if God approves never enters their mind.  To many, life is lived according to their own thoughts and desires.

I can tell others about Jesus and I can set a good example for them, but ultimately each one of us must be accountable to God for ourselves - and ONLY ourselves.  However, as a parent, I am responsible for teaching my children about living their lives for God, so this is a GREAT motto to instill in their minds and in their hearts.

This particular brother-in-law also gave me another quote about 18 years ago.  It was some great advice when we were expecting our first child.  He said, "Discipline early."  Thankfully we took his advice.  Good advice for sure!

Scriptures from God's Word.....mottos from friends and family......they are words of wisdom and words to live by.  Living according to those simple, yet sometimes difficult, thoughts just make life easier.

As you go throughout this week, ask yourself if God will be pleased with what you are doing.  If not, quit it - get it out of your mind!  If He will, then go for it!  Live your life according to what is pleasing to Him and not according to what you want.  Life just goes smoother that way.

Have a great week!

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
Proverbs 3:5-6
