The Right Perspective

We were in the Oklahoma City area this weekend and worshipped at Memorial Road this morning.  The singing was beautiful, and the preacher's message was great! A lot of the lesson focused on the fact that sometimes we have the wrong perspective on life. 

The wrong perspective involves our relationship with God.  It's a skewed view of that relationship...a flip-flopped view on life, actually. Here it is:  Often times we think of ourselves as big and God as small.  We face a problem and think of it as an attack on us and that we have to fight it all on our own.  Or maybe something good....an award or an accomplishment....and we think we've done it all on our own.  Both of these ways of thinking put us out in front and God way in the back - possibly even out of site.

I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

Philippians 4:13

Sometimes we get a "high and mighty" view of ourselves.....thinking we're something when we're not.  On the other hand, sometimes we get a "low and worthless" view of ourselves....believing we're something we're not.  Both extremes are wrong views that don't describe at all how a child of God should feel about him or herself.  As God's children, we should believe that we were created by God, in the likeness of Him and His Son, created to do His works.....and that we can do everything through Him and His power....not at all our own.

This week....let's strive to keep the right perspective on life as a child of God....where God is front and center and we are in the background just loving Him, living for Him, and serving Him.
