Beautiful Feet
Have you been blessed with beautiful feet? I don't know about you, but personally I don't like the idea of having a pedicure! The thought of someone touching my feet is, well....it's just not something that is appealing to me. But many women and even some men like getting pedicures.
Would it surprise you to learn that pedicures were first mentioned in the Bible? They were! Now they weren't called pedicures back in those days, but the washing of feet was customary and expected much of the time. Genesis 18:4 first mentions washing feet. This is when Abraham was sitting at the entrance of his tent and he looked up and saw three men nearby. He went to meet them (the Bible says that two of them were angels and the other was the Lord) and asked them to stay. Verse 4 says,"Let a little water be brought and then you may all wash your feet and rest under this tree."
Many years later Jesus taught the disciples a lesson as he washed their feet. You can read about this in John 13:6-17. In Bible times foot washing was a sign of hospitality and was also needed because of wearing sandals on dirt roads. But Jesus used this time to teach the disciples a lesson. Jesus was showing, by his example, how to be humble. As Christians and disciples (followers) of Jesus, we too are to be humble and do even the lowliest of tasks in order to serve one another.
In modern times, the majority of people who get pedicures do it so that their feet will look better in sandals or open-toes shoes or to get their feet cared for in ways they are not able to. Either way, the pedicure helps the person have more beautiful feet. The Bible talks about beautiful feet, but in it's context it has nothing to do with what your feet actually look like. In fact, God's pedicure - his charge for beautiful feet will cost you no money!!
How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, "Your God reigns!" Isaiah 52:7
So, have you been blessed with beautiful feet? No, I don't mean could you be a shoe model or would you parade around bare foot everywhere. What I mean is, has God given you the gift of bringing Good News to those who need to hear it?
How, then can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of who they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!" Romans 10:14-15
Think about your feet today :0)....your BEAUTIFUL FEET!
